16 employees fired by TCS over bribes-for-jobs scandal

Due to an alleged hiring scam that was revealed in June of this year, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. has fired 16 workers and restricted six vendors from doing business with them.

According to a filing TCS made on Sunday with the stock market, "sixteen employees have been let go from the company for violating the code of conduct, and three employees have been demoted to the position of resource manager."

Also prohibited from doing business with TCS are six vendors, their owners, and affiliates. According to a June 23 article in the newspaper, a multi-crore recruitment scam infiltrated the hiring process at the Tata Group company. TCS had detected the scam among its ranks.

A senior executive at the company's resource management business was allegedly receiving payments from staffing companies for years, according to allegations made by a whistleblower in a correspondence to TCS' chief executive officer and chief operating officer.Then, on June 29, TCS announced that it had fired six workers and six affiliates or subcontractors over the alleged hiring scheme.
