IIM Ahmedabad Placements 2026: IIM Ahmedabad has created a new record in its international placement season, with the highest Maximum Earning Potential (MEP) touching USD 243,000, or nearly Rs 2.31 crore, for a student enrolled in the institute’s flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP).
The latest figure is the highest international MEP recorded by the institute since the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS) framework was introduced in 2011. It also comfortably surpasses IIM Ahmedabad’s previous international record of USD 192,581, reported in 2014.
The record-breaking offer was made for a business development role in the information technology sector in Dubai, marking a notable shift in the pattern of high-paying international recruitment at the premier management institute.
According to the placement details, MEP includes the annual cash salary, one-time cash payments and the total guaranteed cash component. Therefore, the Rs 2.31 crore figure should be understood as the maximum earning potential under the institute’s placement reporting methodology rather than simply a fixed annual salary.
IIM Ahmedabad international placement record reaches Rs 2.31 crore
The standout international offer has pushed IIM Ahmedabad’s 2026 placement season into record territory. The USD 243,000 international MEP represents a significant jump over the earlier benchmark of USD 192,581 set more than a decade ago.
The highest-paying opportunity came from the IT sector and was based in Dubai. The role was in business development, highlighting how technology companies are increasingly seeking management graduates for positions that combine commercial strategy, market expansion and business growth.
The development is also significant because the IT sector emerged as the highest-paying international sector during the latest placement cycle, replacing the dominance seen in recent years from sectors such as banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) and consulting.
However, the international placement pool remained relatively selective. A total of 392 students participated in the placement process, while six students accepted international offers.
Dubai emerged as the principal international destination, accounting for four placements. Hong Kong and Japan accounted for one placement each.
In terms of the employers making these offers, business conglomerates accounted for three of the six international placements, while BFSI, IT and retail companies contributed one offer each.
The numbers indicate that while international opportunities represented a small share of the overall placement pool, they continued to provide some of the most lucrative career opportunities available to PGP students.
IT overtakes BFSI and consulting in overseas pay
The emergence of IT as the highest-paying international sector is among the more notable developments in the 2026 placement season.
Over the previous five years, international compensation leadership had been shared by sectors including BFSI, consulting and business conglomerates. BFSI had emerged as the top-paying overseas sector twice during that period, while consulting and business conglomerates had each led once.
The latest results point towards a changing international recruitment landscape, with technology companies showing greater willingness to offer high earning potential for management professionals.
The fact that the highest international MEP was attached to a business development position in IT is particularly noteworthy. It suggests that technology-driven businesses are not limiting their recruitment requirements to traditional technical or product-focused positions but are also placing value on professionals capable of driving revenue, partnerships and market growth.
Domestic placements remain strong
The record international offer was accompanied by strong domestic placement figures.
For domestic placements, the highest MEP stood at Rs 81.6 lakh, while the median MEP reached Rs 36.98 lakh. The median figure was the highest recorded by IIM Ahmedabad in the past five years.
The domestic results offer another indication of the strength of the placement season. While the international offer attracted attention because of its record value, the rise in the median domestic MEP is arguably a more important indicator of the broader compensation picture for the graduating cohort.
BFSI retained its position as the highest-paying domestic sector for the second consecutive year.
However, consulting continued to dominate in terms of recruitment volume. The sector made 155 offers, significantly more than BFSI, which made 82 offers.
IT and business conglomerates each made 34 offers, while consumer services accounted for 15 offers.
The compensation rankings also showed continued strength in BFSI, followed by IT, consumer services and automotive. Each of these sectors recorded a highest MEP of Rs 50 lakh or more. Automotive, however, had only one candidate in the relevant placement category.
Among sectors with broader participation, BFSI reported the highest median salaries, followed by consulting, engineering and technology, and consumer services.
Business development jobs see sharp rise
One of the biggest recruitment trends visible in the placement report is the sharp increase in demand for business development roles.
The number of business development offers increased to 27 in 2026, compared with only two to five offers annually between 2022 and 2024.
The rise is particularly striking because it represents a substantial change in the recruitment profile over a relatively short period.
The record international offer itself was also for a business development role, making the increase even more significant. Together, the figures indicate that business development has become a more prominent career pathway for management graduates, particularly in sectors seeking expansion, technology adoption and new-market growth.
For students and prospective MBA candidates, the trend could also signal a widening range of opportunities beyond conventional consulting, finance and general management roles.
182 companies participate in IIM Ahmedabad placements
The 2026 placement process saw participation from 182 companies, with recruiters offering opportunities across approximately 267 roles.
The recruitment ecosystem also expanded during the latest cycle, with more than 50 new companies participating in IIM Ahmedabad’s lateral and final placement processes.
Among individual recruiters, Accenture Strategy made the highest number of offers, including pre-placement offers (PPOs), with 36 offers.
It was followed by BCG with 33 offers, FinIQ Consulting with 24, and McKinsey & Company with 21.
The presence of a large number of recruiters across consulting, BFSI, technology, consumer services and business conglomerates highlights the breadth of career options available to students.
The placement figures also show that consulting continues to have a strong presence in terms of hiring volume even as technology and business development roles gain greater prominence.
What the IIM Ahmedabad placement figures indicate
The 2026 placement season presents a mixed but broadly positive picture of the employment market for IIM Ahmedabad graduates.
At the international level, the Rs 2.31 crore MEP marks an unprecedented compensation ceiling for the institute under the IPRS reporting system. At the domestic level, the Rs 36.98 lakh median MEP represents the highest median figure recorded over the past five years.
At the same time, the placement data reveals an evolving sectoral mix. IT has emerged as the highest-paying international sector, while BFSI continues to lead domestic compensation. Consulting remains the largest recruiter by volume, and business development has witnessed a sharp increase in demand.
The geographic distribution of international placements also points to continued demand for Indian management talent in major global business centres. Dubai accounted for the majority of overseas placements, with Hong Kong and Japan also featuring in the international recruitment landscape.
For students aspiring to pursue an MBA from a premier Indian management institute, the figures underline the importance of building skills that can travel across industries and markets. The growing number of opportunities in technology and business development, alongside established demand from consulting and BFSI, suggests that career pathways for management graduates are becoming increasingly diverse.
Ultimately, IIM Ahmedabad’s 2026 placement season stands out not merely because one international offer crossed the Rs 2 crore mark, but because several indicators moved in a positive direction simultaneously: a record international MEP, the highest domestic median MEP in five years, greater participation from recruiters and a sharp rise in business development opportunities.
The Rs 2.31 crore international MEP may be the headline figure, but the broader placement data suggests that the institute continues to attract strong demand from both Indian and global employers across a widening range of sectors and roles.
