The Israeli military said on Monday that it had killed Abu Ali Rida, a high-ranking Hezbollah commander. Rida was reportedly targeted in an Israeli Air Force (IAF) airstrike in southern Lebanon’s Baraachit area, where he led operations and orchestrated rocket and anti-tank missile attacks on Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Role of Abu Ali Rida in Hezbollah’s Campaign
Abu Ali Rida was instrumental in Hezbollah’s military operations and was responsible for supervising various attacks and the activities of local operatives. This was reported on the IDF’s social media. The Israeli airstrikes have increasingly targeted Hezbollah commanders, including figures such as former leader Hassan Nasrallah. This clash between Israel and Hezbollah has been building over the past year accross the west asia. Tensions escalated from October 7 last year. Since then, the IDF has bolstered airstrikes in southern Lebanon and gaza. Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 12 Palestinians in Gaza yesterday. Residents said they feared new air and ground attacks.
Humanitarian Crisis and Calls for Ceasefire
The crisis in Gaza, where Israeli forces have intensified their operations and bombarded hospitals in the northern regionod gaza according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israeli forces have launched another attacks on Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza injuring both medical staff and patients, including newborns in the nursery, medical staff reported. Among them eight newborns are in incubators, while seven other babies and children in the Intensive Care Unit. This has caused severe damage to the hospital’s upper floors, where the children’s ward is located. Israeli forces reportedly detained dozens of hospital staff members during a raid last week. The hospital now faces a critical shortage of personnel with only four doctors. Supplies are also running low after the destruction of the hospital’s storage facilities.
This has sparked international calls for increased humanitarian aid access. The UN Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) have expressed concerns over Israel’s decision to end ties with the organization which could severely impact Gaza’s aid infrastructure. Germany and other nations have also urged Israel to prioritize humanitarian aid, especially in northern Gaza, where the situation has been described as “unbearable.” At least 2,900 casualties have been reported in Lebanon alone. As the conflict persists, the international bodies have ramped up calls for a ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon. However, Israel remains firm on its stance.
