Meta is introducing the ability to create polls and include GIFs directly from the Threads post composer. Instagram head Adam Mosseri also announced the testing of view counts on Threads posts and pinned posts in profiles and replies.
These new features, polls, and GIF integration are now being rolled out. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO, demonstrated this by posting a GIF and a poll. Although these are small additions, they have been available on other platforms like Twitter for a while.
Zuckerberg's poll allows for up to four options and includes a real-time countdown timer for voting. To view the poll results, you must vote, and Threads will send you a notification once the poll ends.
To easily share GIFs, a new GIF icon is available for searching GIFs from Giphy. The GIF picker displays trending GIFs and offers a search bar to find specific ones.
The tests for view counts and pinned posts are inspired by other platforms, with view counts becoming more popular. They provide users with a better understanding of their content's reach.
Pinned posts, a common feature on other platforms, are being innovated in Threads by allowing users to pin a reply to a post. These tests are currently live for a limited number of users.
Threads, launched in July, has already gained "just under" 100 million monthly active users, according to Mark Zuckerberg's announcement during a recent earnings call.
