Apple's Wonderlust event showcased the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Watch Ultra, the successor to the 2022 Watch Series 8. The latest generation of the Apple Watch Series offers a range of features and is available for sale on September 22. The design is identical to the Watch Series 8, available in aluminium and stainless steel s well. However, the new Watch Series 9 is more environmentally conscious than its predecessor, being the first fully carbon-neutral product from Apple. It incorporates recycled materials in straps, casing, and retail packaging and ships with newer, eco-friendly watch straps. Apple has discontinued the leather strap, but the existing Apple Watch band collection will continue to be compatible with the Series 9. This technical comparison helps users decide which Apple smartwatch is better suited for their needs.
Display: Same size, improved abilities
Like the Watch Series 8, the new Watch Series 9 is offered in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm. Even though the new display looks the same as its predecessor, it is better and can reach up to 2000 nits of peak brightness, which is twice as bright as the Series 8. The lighting on the Watch Series 9 display can now go as low as one nit, which makes it easier on the eyes at night. If you want a watch that is brighter than the Watch Series 9, try the Watch Ultra 2, which has a peak brightness of 3000 nits.
New and effective chip performance
The S9 SiP (system-in-package), the most potent chip the company has ever placed in a smartwatch, powers the Apple Watch Series 9. In reality, the Watch Ultra 2, which costs more money, uses the identical chip. Despite slightly accelerating the watch, the new processor also brings a number of additional functions that the Watch Series 8 does not have, including a double tap, on-device Siri processing, and the capacity to access and log health data. A new ultra-wideband chip, which is also included in the S9 SiP, gives the Apple Watch Series 9 new features like improved HomePod integration and precision location for the iPhone 15 family.
Battery life stays constant
The battery life of the Watch Series 9 remains at 18 hours, just like it has for the previous few iterations of the Apple Watch, despite the more efficient chip. Furthermore, there has been no change in charging speeds, which is also disappointing. However, the Ultra 2 still provides 36 hours of battery life.
Conclusion: Different characters, same appearance
The Apple Watch Series 9, which costs Rs 41,900 for the 41mm GPS-only variant, offers a number of additional features and capabilities as a result of the upgraded SiP, making it an obvious winner. The majority of these new capabilities, meanwhile, aren't really innovative, especially if you already own a Watch Series 8 (which costs about Rs 39,000 and is officially discontinued). But given the little price difference between the two, it would be wiser to choose the most recent Watch Series 9 if you had to choose.
