Apple could bring AI features to the iPhone with iOS 18

Apple is developing AI integration for the next version of iOS, which is scheduled to be released next year, in an effort to keep up with the growing trend of artificial intelligence.

Mark Gurman, from Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, reported last week that Apple is actively working to incorporate AI into a wide range of their apps.

Moreover, it's anticipated that AI will play a significant role in Apple's upcoming iOS 18, scheduled for release in the fall of the next year.

This news follows the recent launch of Apple's iOS 17 for compatible devices last month. Gurman, an Apple analyst, notes that AI has been somewhat lacking internally, considering that competitors like Microsoft and Google have already integrated AI into several of their products, making it a notable area where Apple needs to catch up.

If the most recent reports are accurate, iOS 18 may undergo significant AI-driven enhancements. Gurman suggests that Apple is preparing to allocate nearly $1 billion (approximately Rs 8300 crore) annually toward advancing generative AI.

According to the Bloomberg report, the forthcoming features aim to enhance the question-answering and sentence auto-completion capabilities of both Siri and the Messages app, aligning with updates seen in rival services. These improvements will be facilitated by the extensive use of a large language model (LLM), which will become an integral component of Siri and the Messages app, playing a substantial role in enhancing the AI capabilities of these products.

The report also discusses the incorporation of AI into Xcode, Apple's integrated development environment for macOS, which is used for creating software across various Apple platforms, including macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. The introduction of AI features is expected to enhance the process of application development.

Furthermore, there's a new auto-generated playlist feature planned for Apple Music that will be chart-driven. Additionally, Apple might leverage generative AI to introduce various automated features in its Pages and Keynote apps.
