The number of 5G subscriptions increased by 175 million in the second quarter of 2023, bringing the total number of users to 1.3 billion worldwide. The number of 4G subscriptions is still growing, rising by 11 million to reach 5.2 billion globally.
According to Ericsson's 2023 Mobility Report for Mobile Subscriptions, there were 8.3 billion active mobile subscriptions at the end of the second quarter. There was a 43 million increase.
India took up the greatest portion of the market with over 7 million users, followed by China with 5 million and the United States with 3 million. 105 per cent of all mobile subscriptions worldwide were active during that time.
The number of mobile broadband subscriptions increased by 100 million during the quarter to reach 7.4 billion, making up 88 per cent of all subscriptions.
35 of the approximately 260 communication service providers implemented standalone 5G networks as part of the launch of 5G commercial services. There are currently 6.1 billion unique mobile subscribers.
