The first supermoon of 2023 was witnessed by people around the world on Thursday, April 6, which coincides with the full moon of April, also known as the 'Pink Moon'. This name is derived from an early spring flower, a perennial wildflower plant, and the moon is also referred to as the 'fish moon' or 'sprouting grass moon'. In Hindu tradition, this day is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti according to the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra.
Astrologer Richard Nolle introduced the term 'supermoon' in 1979, which is used to describe a new or full moon that is closest to the Earth or occurs when the moon is within 90% of its perigee. These supermoons are known to be the biggest and brightest full moons of the year.
Moon watchers took to social media platforms such as Twitter on Thursday morning to share stunning images and footage of the 'Pink Moon' of April 2023.
