The first pictures of the Moon taken by the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft were released by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Sunday.
This occurs a day after Chandrayaan-3 was successfully guided into a lunar orbit by ISRO, marking a significant milestone for India's third lunar mission.
The first message that India's third lunar mission made to ISRO after entering the Moon's orbit was "I am feeling lunar gravity," the space agency tweeted on Saturday. After traveling a great distance of 384,400 kilometers and escaping Earth's gravity, the spacecraft made entrance into the lunar orbit.
ISRO tweeted, "The Moon, as viewed by Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft during Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) on August 5, 2023."
At the ISRO Telemetry, the spacecraft's health is being continuously monitored from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX), Tracking and Command Network (Istrac) in Bengaluru with assistance from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas at Byalalu, close to Bengaluru. Chandrayaan-3 has completed 22 days of its 40-day lunar journey since its launch onboard the LVM-3 on July 14.
