Declaration of National Space Day
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 23 to be "National Space Day." As on August 23, Chandrayaan-3 accomplished a successful soft landing on the moon's South Pole.
“In today’s era, the country which paces ahead in the field of science and technology will be charting history...To encourage our younger generation to get involved in the field of science and technology and space, we have decided that August 23, the day when our Chandrayaan-3 lander touched the moon, will be celebrated as National Space Day,” PM Modi added.
At the ISRO command center in Bengaluru, the prime minister was speaking to scientists from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Lauding the ISRO's Heros
On Saturday, the PM met with ISRO scientists to congratulate them while praising the Chandryaan-3 heroes responsible for the mission's success. The PM spoke with ISRO researchers in Bengaluru at the ISTRAC (Isro Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex).
Naming Chandrayaan-3 touchdown spot
The point on the moon where Chandrayaan-3 landed will be called "Shivshakti," according to PM Modi, who also praised the work of the women scientists for the successful space mission and the landing of Chandrayaan-3.
“Women scientists played a key role in Chandrayaan 3...this ‘Shivkshakti’ point will inspire the upcoming generations to use science for the welfare of people. The welfare of people is our supreme commitment...” PM Modi said.
Naming Chandrayaan-2's impact point
Additionally, he declared that the location of Chandrayaan-2's impact will be known as the "Tiranga" point.
Make in India initiative to the Moon
“We have our national pride placed on the Moon. This feat is unprecedented! This is today’s India, the BOLD AND BRAVE India!” Modi said in his address.
Using the success of Chandrayaan 3 as an example, he claimed that the scientists had taken the Make in India initiative to the Moon.
