At just 17 years Aparup Roy from West Bengal is working with Tesla as a junior research Assistant in its food printing project. Hailing from Durgapur, West Bengal, Aparup is a class 11 student in Zoom International School, Durgapur.
He has also received participation certificates from three international space agencies such as ESA, NASA, and JAXA for addressing covid-19 challenges on Earth in their Earth Observation (EO) Dashboard Hackathon, an interactive platform created by the Space Research Organizations for assessing the Collective Intellectual Solutions to the problems the world faced during and post pandemic period.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he has also authored a research proposal named ‘Development of Cow Dung using Herbal Ingredients based Mosquito Repellent’.
Aparup is a chemistry aficionado since childhood, and thus understands the toxicity of the chemicals used in making the mosquito repellents available in the market. He believes that developing a herbal mosquito repellent can spare people, the serious health hazards that artificial mosquito repellents pose.
During the lockdown when life had come to a standstill, he spent his time performing several experiments at home, including preparing salt-water solutions for conducting electricity.
He also acknowledged that some experiments were too complex to be performed at home, thus he wrote an email to the Head of the Department of Chemistry, NIT Durgapur stating his wishes. Courtesy of NIT Durgapur, Aparup is now allowed to conduct his research at a lab in the NIT.
He has also written and published two books titled ¬– ‘Master ICSE Chemistry Semester’ and ‘Problems in General Chemistry’ and three research papers in the field of chemistry, in “The Journal of Physics and Chemistry of materials', ‘International Journal of Science and Research’ and ‘International Journal of Scientific Research in Chemical Sciences’.
The books were published when he was in 10th standard. In 2020 Aparup had secured All India Rank (AIR) 706 in Vedantu Master Scholarship Test (VSAT) and AIR 11 in ISRO Cyberspace Competition.
He has also secured Rank 1 in National Science Olympiad and AIR 482 in this year's Byju’s National Aptitude Test for IIT-JEE Aspirants 2022. The young innovator from West Bengal had previously scored 95% marks in class 10 Board exams and is now preparing diligently for cracking JEE prelims and Mains, and also aspires to join IIT Bombay in the following years to come.
