By-Elections Results Live Updates: INDIA bloc sweeps by-polls with 10 out of 13 seats; BJP gets 2

July 13:  The INDIA bloc dominated the by-elections by winning 10 of 13 seats, while the NDA only managed to bag two seats. In Bihar, an Independent candidate won Rupauli. By-polls for 13 Assembly in 7 states were being counted today. This was the first election process since the Lok Sabha elections, where the opposition alliance, INDIA, gained strength and the BJP could not secure a majority. 

The following seats underwent elections: Madhya Pradesh's Amarwara, Uttarakhand's Badrinath and Manglaur, Punjab's Jalandhar West, Himachal Pradesh's Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh, West Bengal's Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda, and Maniktala, and Tamil Nadu's Vikravandi.

Trends on the Election Commission website show that the BJP secured one Assembly seat, while the INDIA bloc parties secured four and were leading on six. Who has won and who is leading?

  • Congress has won three seats (Badrinath, Manglaur, Dehra) and is leading on 1.
  • TMC has won 3 seats (Raiganj, Bagda, Ranaghat Dakshin,) and is leading in 1.
  • AAP has won the Jalandhar West seat in Punjab.

  • Uttarakhand by-poll: Congress wins both Badrinath and Manglaur

The Badrinath and Manglaur assembly seats in Uttarakhand have been won by Congress. Lakhapat Singh Butola, a candidate for the Congress party defeated Rajendra Bhandari of the BJP by 5,224 votes, in Badrinath. 

  • TMC poised to win the West Bengal by-elections

A month after the party's overwhelming triumph in the Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) maintained its winning streak in the West Bengal by-polls, capturing the Raiganj and Bagda Assembly seats and securing an unchallenged lead in two other constituencies. 

In Raiganj and Bagda, TMC candidates Krishna Kalyani and Madhuparna Thakur were victorious, and Mukut Mani Adhikari and Supti Pandey have been leading ahead in Ranaghat Dakshin and Maniktala, respectively. Mr. Kalyani defeated the nearest BJP opponent Manas Kumar Ghosh in Raiganj by a margin of 50,077 votes. Mr. Ghosh received 36,402 votes, compared to Mr. Kalyani's 86,479 votes.

  • Kamlesh Thakur, Himachal CM Sukhu's wife, wins with over 9k votes in Dehra

With more than 32,000 votes, Kamlesh Thakur of the Indian National Congress defeated her closest rival by 9399 votes in Dehra, Himachal Pradesh. With 23,338 votes, Hoshyar Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party is trailing behind Thakur by 9399 votes. 

  • The DMK remains in the lead in Vikravandi

In the by-election to the Vikravandi assembly constituency, where vote counting is taking place at the counting centre in Panayapuram, Villupuram district, the DMK took an early lead.
After the fifth round of vote counting, DMK candidate Anniyur Siva led PMK contender C. Anbumani by 19,668 votes.

The passing on April 6 of DMK MLA N. Pugazhenthi made the by-poll necessary.

  • INDIA bloc ahead in 11 of 13 seats; BJP, JD(U) leading in one each

The candidates from the INDIA bloc parties—Congress, AAP, TMC, and DMK—are leading in 11 of the 13 assembly seats, according to counting trends on the Election Commission (EC) website. In Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, the BJP was leading, but in Rupauli, Bihar, its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner, the JD(U), was leading.

  • Uttarakhand by-poll: Congress leading in both Badrinath and Manglaur

Badrinath: With 11,086 votes, Lakhapat Singh Butola of the Indian National Congress is ahead of his closest rival by 1935 in Badrinath, Uttarakhand. The Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajendra Singh Bhandari is lagging with 9151 votes, which is 1935 fewer than Butola's total.

Manglaur: Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin, the INC candidate, has 23,985 votes, 8736 more than the next closest candidate. With 15,249 votes, a loss of 8736 votes from Nizamuddin's total, Kartar Singh Bhadana of the Bharatiya Janata Party is lagging.

  • AAP’s Mohinder Bhagat wins Punjab's Jalandhar West seat

In the Jalandhar West by-poll in Punjab, Mohinder Bhagat, the Aam Aadmi Party's candidate, emerged victorious with a wide margin of 37,325 votes.

  • Kamlesh Thakur, Himachal CM Sukhu's wife, leading in Dehra

With 21,723 votes, Kamlesh Thakur of the Indian National Congress is ahead of his closest rival by 5029 votes in Dehra, Himachal Pradesh. With 16,694 votes, Hoshyar Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party is now 5029 votes behind Thakur's total.

  • TMC is ahead in each of the four West Bengal seats

In West Bengal, the All India Trinamool Congress is in the lead for each of the four assembly seats. In Raiganj, TMC candidate Krishna Kalyani has seized a commanding lead of over 10,000 votes. In the assembly constituencies of Maniktala, Ranaghat Dakshin, and Bagda, the TMC is also leading.

Following two rounds of counting, the All India Trinamool Congress candidate took a significant lead of more than 10000 votes, with BJP's Manas Kumar Ghosh trailing. The Raiganj assembly seat is located in West Bengal.

  • Himachal CM Sukhu's wife trailing from the Dehra seat

Following three rounds of counting in Dehra, Hoshyar Singh, the BJP candidate, has kept a lead of more than 500 votes. Kamlesh Thakur, a congress candidate and the wife of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is currently lagging.

Instances of disputes were reported during the voting process in the seats of West Bengal and Uttarakhand. According to police, a clash between supporters of rival parties at the polling booth during by-polls in Uttarkhand's Manglaur Assembly constituency caused injuries to four people. A dispute also broke out between TMC and BJP workers in Raiganj, West Bengal.
