On Wednesday, the Maharashtra government made a decision to introduce an insurance scheme for Warkaris, who are devotees of Lord Vithhal, participating in the annual "Ashadhi Ekadashi" procession that concludes in the holy town of Pandharpur. As per officials, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved the implementation of a scheme called "Vitthal Rukmini Warkari Bima Chhatra Yojana." This scheme aims to provide insurance coverage to Warkaris taking part in Pandharpur's Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage. The scheme is designed to offer insurance coverage for a duration of 30 days, benefiting millions of devotees. According to the scheme, in the unfortunate event of a Warkari's demise, their family members will receive an ex gratia grant of Rs 5 lakh.

Additionally, a sum of Rs 5 lakh will be provided in case of permanent disability or disability resulting from an accident. Furthermore, Rs 50,000 will be given for partial disability, and up to Rs 35,000 will be allocated for medical treatment during menstruation-related illnesses. The official mentioned that the implementation of this scheme will be supervised by the relief and rehabilitation department. The pilgrimage concludes in the town of Pandharpur, located in the Solapur district, on the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi. This event carries great significance for the devotees of Lord Vitthal in Maharashtra. It is worth noting that Ashadhi Ekadashi falls on June 29 this year.
