On the Mumbai-Pune motorway, a chemical truck collapsed on Tuesday, killing four people, including two children, in a horrifying tragedy. A scooter that was travelling below the flyover when the tanker struck the divider in the Mumbai lane of the flyover caught fire. The fire then extended beneath the flyover. Traffic backups caused by the accident lasted five hours in Mumbai and one hour in Pune.
According to the highway police, a tanker headed for Mumbai struck the divider at roughly 11.40 a.m., caught fire, and then collapsed into it. Due to the fire's ferocity, chemicals fell from the flyover and dripped to the ground below, catching fire and destroying a scooter that was passing underneath. The scooter was carrying a woman and two kids.As a result of the accident, traffic from the Khalapur and Urse tolls was rerouted to the Khandala exit for Pune, while the Lonavala exit on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway was closed to vehicles travelling in the direction of Mumbai. Around 12.45 pm, the Mumbai lane was reopened, and around 5 pm, the Pune lane was also reopened.
According to Tanaji Chilkhale, SP Highway (Pune), the incident happened at 11:40 a.m., and highway police and IRB officials arrived on the scene at 11:50 a.m. Three more injured people were then located below the flyover, and two more injured people were brought to the hospital. Ritesh Koshire, age 17, Kushal Ware, age 9, and Savita Vare, age 35, have been named as the deceased victims. In order to identify the driver's body, which was extensively burned in the fire, the authorities have a difficult task. In addition, efforts are still being made to identify two more tanker victims who were hurt. The owner of the tanker may be able to provide information that would help identify the driver and other accident victims.
