Two large four-lane bypass projects, costing Rs 250 crore, should be finished by 2025, and the people of Bicholim can look forward to an end to their traffic congestion issues. The public works department (PWD) has already released the bidding for the around Rs 160 crore Assonora bypass, and work on the Rs 90 crore Bicholim bypass is already under way. The Assonora bypass, which will be 2.9 kilometres long and connect Assonora market to Shirgao junction, is currently entirely sponsored by the state government.
It is State Route 1, and a bid has already been put out for the project. The opening of technical bids will take place on July 10. If all goes as planned, construction on the project will start following the monsoon season in 2023. It should be finished in 18 months. According to a state official, the project is being designed in line with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' guidelines.
The project's land acquisition has already been totally finished. A significant flyover and a few small bridges will be part of the bypass. According to a source, despite prior enhancements, the current road has reached a saturation point and cannot be further improved. Assmas Constructions, a Goa-based company, is currently working on the Bicholim bypass. The state also provides funding for this.
This 4.6-kilometre bypass will run through Bicholim from Bordem to Sarvan. The official stated that the completion of this state highway, which will also have four lanes, is anticipated for the following year.
All heavy vehicles that are currently using Bicholim Town as part of the interstate route are anticipated to be diverted via the bypass in the future. Residents of Bicholim who currently experience traffic congestion would benefit from this.
