Two cheetah cubs died in MP's Kuno National Park

Two cheetah cubs born in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park almost two months prior died on Thursday because of "intense heat and weakness", the authorities said. Officials say that on March 24, the cubs of a Namibian cheetah died in the fenced area where the mother and her cubs were housed from apparent dehydration and weakness. This spring, Jwala, a female cheetah that was imported from Namibia and kept at Kuno National Park in the Sheopur area of Madhya Pradesh, gave birth to four cubs. At Kuno Park, the total number of cubs has now been reduced to one following the deaths of the cubs. "After one of the cubs passed away, the extra three and the female cheetah Jwala were continuously watched throughout the day by wildlife doctors posted in Palpur. Throughout the day, more food was given to the cheetah Jwala.

On Thursday, the official statement said, "The condition of the remaining three cubs did not appear normal during monitoring." In addition, it stated that the critically ill cubs could not be saved despite all medical efforts. Also noteworthy is the fact that May 23, 2023, also occurred to be the warmest day of the current summer. The day's maximum temperature ranged from 46 to 47 degrees Celsius. Incredibly hot breezes and intensity waves went on over the course of the day. The management and the team of wildlife doctors immediately made the decision to rescue the three cubs and administer the necessary care after observing the unusual condition. Due to their critical condition, two cubs were not saved despite all medical efforts," it continued.

Notably, as part of a project to establish groups of wild cheetahs in India, the Union environment ministry flown in eight cheetahs from Namibia to Kuno in September of last year and 12 more from South Africa in February of this year. Notably, three cheetahs have already died in the National Park within the past few months, pointing the finger at Kuno management and administration. A Namibian cheetah passed on in Spring from kidney illness, a South African cheetah died in April from a dubious reason, and a second South African cheetah died recently in the wake of being harmed by male cheetahs during mating endeavors.
