A government Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) says that until Republic Day on January 26, planes will not be able to leave or arrive at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport between 10:20 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Republic Day is also a holiday, so the airport will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. These rules won't affect the Air Force, Army, or Border Security Force's chopper operations or planes that carry a state's governor or chief minister for official business. Part of the security steps that are always taken before Republic Day celebrations is closing the road. Days after weeks of thick fog that caused flights to be delayed or cancelled, the shutdown could make things even more difficult for businesses.
As a way to fight back against problems caused by fog, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced a six-point action plan. This includes setting up "war rooms" and giving planes new standard operating procedures. President Emmanuel Macron of France will be the guest of honour at India's 75th Republic Day celebration. Paragliders, hang gliders, microlight aircraft, drones, and hot air balloons can't be used until February 15 because of the event, according to the Delhi Police. There are also no longer any permits for paragliding. The East District section of the Delhi Police recently held an anti-terror drill at the Akshardham Temple to test their readiness to handle various emergencies.
