A jeweller in South Mumbai has registered a police complaint after cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 5.1 crore went missing from his shop. The jeweller suspects that his landlord and his colleagues are involved in the theft, after which one of the landlord's accomplices has been arrested. Vikram Kumar Jain, filed a police complaint against his landlord, Sanjay Goyal, for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth ₹2.4 crores and ₹2.5 crores in cash from Jain's rented shop in Kalbadevi. Jain had paid a deposit of ₹27 lahks to rent the shop.
Jain's employees purchased 4 kilograms of gold jewellery and kept it in the locker along with ₹2.5 crores in cash on June 16. However, the next day, when Jain's employees tried to enter the shop, they were prevented by Goyal's employees. Jain spoke to Goyal, who promised to meet him, but then started avoiding Jain's calls. On Monday, Jain reported the incident to the police after reviewing the shop's CCTV footage. He observed that Goyal entered the shop and exited carrying a bulky bag. The police officer stated, " After investigation, we discovered that Goyal, accompanied by his employee Bhuwad and an unidentified individual, forcibly broke the shutter lock and accessed the shop's safe, stealing cash and jewellery."
In response, the police promptly filed a case against the culprits under sections 380 (theft in a residential building), 454 (the penalty for trespassing or breaking into a house), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Bhuwad has been arrested by the authorities, and the police are still searching for the landlord and the other accomplice.
