Sood, an IPS officer of the 1986 batch from the Karnataka cadre, held the position of Director General of Police (DGP) in the state, making him the most senior IPS officer in the country after Jaiswal.In a high-powered committee meeting, which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Praveen Sood's appointment as the next director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was approved. It is worth noting that Chowdhury, a Congress leader, had expressed his dissent by reportedly submitting a note of disagreement regarding the selection of Sood.
