After noting that FIRs have been registered and seven complainants have been provided with adequate security, the Supreme Court closed the proceedings on Thursday on a plea by three women wrestlers who have made allegations of sexual harassment against the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India. The wrestlers' legal team requested that the ongoing investigation be overseen by a retired or serving high court judge, but a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud turned down the request.
"You specifically came here to ask that an FIR be filed and that the complainants be protected. Both of your prayers have been answered at this point. "You can very well approach the high court or the jurisdictional magistrate if you have any further grievances," the bench, which also included Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala, stated, adding that it is closing the proceedings for the time being. It gave the petitioner the freedom to petition the high court or the jurisdictional magistrate for additional relief.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who was representing the Delhi Police, informed the bench at the outset that the police had assessed the complainants' perception of a threat in accordance with the Supreme Court's order of April 28. He told the bench that the minor complainant and the six other women wrestlers had adequate security in place. Under area 161 of the CrPC, Mehta expressed that the proclamations of four complainants, including the minor, have been kept for the situation.
At Jantar Mantar, a number of wrestlers who have won awards at international competitions have been protesting, demanding that the government release the findings of an oversight panel that looked into the sexual harassment allegations against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Seven female wrestlers have accused the BJP MP of sexual harassment, and the Delhi Police have filed two FIRs against Singh. The wrestlers have stated that until Singh is apprehended, they will not leave the protest site.
