In a recent announcement, the Ministry of Finance unveiled its plans to introduce a special commemorative ₹75 coins, symbolizing the inauguration of India's new parliament building and the momentous celebration of 75 years of independence. One side of the coin will feature the iconic Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar, adorned with the inspiring inscription "Satyamev Jayate" below it. To represent the nation, the word "Bharat" will be elegantly inscribed in the Devanagari script on the left side, while the word "India" will be displayed in English on the right.
Adding to its significance, the coin will proudly showcase the rupee symbol and the denomination value of 75 in international numerals beneath the Lion Capital. On the reverse side, a meticulously crafted image of the parliament complex will take centre stage, accompanied by the words "Sansad Sankul" in Devanagari script on the upper periphery and "Parliament Complex" in English on the lower periphery. Crafted with utmost precision, this circular coin will possess a diameter of 44 millimetres and feature 200 serrations along its edges, adding a touch of uniqueness.
Weighing a total of 35 grams, this remarkable coin will be composed of a specially blended four-part alloy, comprising 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc. The highly anticipated inauguration of the new parliament building will be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, with an impressive lineup of 25 political parties expected to grace the event. However, it is noteworthy that approximately 20 opposition parties have chosen to boycott this occasion. Voicing their dissent, prominent parties such as Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Left, Trinamool, Samajwadi Party, and others firmly argue that a new building holds little significance when the "soul of democracy has been sucked out."
These parties specifically criticize Prime Minister Modi's decision to conduct the inauguration rather than having President Droupadi Murmu perform the ceremonial duties. In response to the opposition's boycott, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has strongly condemned their actions, viewing it as a direct assault on the cherished democratic ethos and constitutional values that define our great nation.
