Mumbai on Alert: RBI & other Banks receive 'Bombing Threat' email

 Mumbai Police reported that bomb threats were sent to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank, demanding the resignation of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das.

The Mumbai Reserve Bank received a threatening email regarding 11 bomb blasts in Mumbai on December 26. This caused the police to become alarmed, but upon investigation, no suspicious objects were discovered at any of the mentioned locations, including the RBI central office building and two other banks.

According to a police official, at approximately 10:50 a.m., an email was sent from the address khilafat.india@gmail.com to the RBI governor's email id. The email contained a threat of bomb blasts at various locations, including the RBI new Central Office building in Fort, HDFC House in Churchgate, and ICICI Bank Tower in Bandra-Kurla Complex. The specified time for these potential blasts was 1:30 p.m.

As per the FIR, the sender of the message demanded the immediate resignation of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, along with a full statement regarding the disclosure of the "banking scam". The sender threatened to carry out explosions if their demands were not met. It warned of 11 bomb attacks at different locations in Mumbai at 1:30 pm on Tuesday. The police thoroughly investigated all the mentioned places but found no explosives.

"11 bombs are planted at different locations in Mumbai and explosions will take place at 1.30 pm at the RBI new Central Office building, Fort, HDFC House in Churchgate, and ICICI Bank Tower in Bandra-Kurla Complex. All the 11 bombs will blast one by one (sic)," it said, as quoted in NDTV profit's report. 

The case has been registered against an unidentified person on the complaint of the RBI head guard under different sections of the Indian Penal Code, which include      
505-1 b (spreading false alarm or warning about a disaster or its severity, causing panic), 502-2 (making statements to cause public mischief), and 506-2 (criminal intimidation). The investigation is currently ongoing, and updates will be provided in due course.
