Part of the Government of India’s flagship Fit India Movement, Sundays on Cycle has emerged as a nationwide initiative led by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in partnership with MY Bharat. The campaign encourages citizens to dedicate their Sundays to physical activity, cycling, and outdoor fitness while raising awareness about environmental sustainability and pollution-free transportation.

The initiative seeks to address growing concerns over sedentary lifestyles and rising obesity rates by motivating people to embrace regular exercise. At the same time, it promotes cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transport that can contribute to reducing pollution and creating healthier communities.

Held simultaneously across thousands of locations nationwide, Sundays on Cycle brings together citizens, students, government employees, and cycling enthusiasts in local neighborhoods, educational institutions, Sports Authority of India centers, and community spaces. Participants can either join existing events or organize their own cycling activities through registration on the MY Bharat platform.

In Mumbai, the latest edition was organized under the campaign’s popular message, “Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz,” emphasizing the importance of dedicating at least 30 minutes daily to physical fitness.

At the Matunga venue, Smt. Prachi Saroop, Principal Chief Commissioner, CGST & Customs, Mumbai Zone, attended as the Chief Guest. The event also witnessed active participation from senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers and departmental staff, who extended their support to the Fit India Movement by joining the cycling rally and associated fitness activities.

Meanwhile, the Kharghar event at KGST Parisar was conducted under the guidance of Shri Akhilesh Pandey, Commissioner, GST Thane. The successful organization of the programme was further supported by Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ms. Sumidha Devi, and Shri Raghu Kiran, who played important roles in facilitating the event.

The programme at both venues began with an energetic Zumba warm-up session designed to prepare participants for the cycling rally. The fitness activities created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and community engagement, encouraging people of all age groups to take part.

One of the highlights of the event was its inclusive nature. Women, children, and senior family members enthusiastically joined the activities, reflecting the campaign’s focus on broad-based public participation and community wellness. The strong turnout demonstrated the growing popularity of cycling as a recreational and fitness activity while reinforcing the spirit of Jan Bhagidari, or people’s participation, that lies at the heart of the Fit India Movement.

Officials noted that the programme aligns with the government’s broader vision of creating a fitter and healthier nation through regular physical activity. By encouraging citizens to incorporate cycling into their daily routines, the campaign aims to foster long-term behavioral change and healthier lifestyle choices.

The successful conduct of the 74th edition at both Matunga and Kharghar reaffirmed the commitment of SAI Regional Centre Mumbai and CGST & Customs toward building a more active India. Organizers emphasized that initiatives such as Sundays on Cycle not only promote physical fitness but also encourage environmental consciousness by advocating sustainable, non-polluting modes of transport.

As the campaign continues to expand across the country, Fit India – Sundays on Cycle remains a powerful platform for inspiring individuals and communities to embrace fitness, healthier living, and greener mobility, one ride at a time.
