Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, has introduced in Thane the largest, most comprehensive, and oldest cluster development programme in Asia. When introducing the programme, Mr Shinde stated that although his long-awaited ideal was finally becoming a reality, the day the program's recipients really received the keys to their own homes would be the day he would be happiest in the world. After the Sairaj Building collapse in Thane, which killed 18 lives, this plan was conceived for the community rehabilitation of illegal and official unsafe buildings. The renovated township design contains state-of-the-art municipal, sports, parking, health, and educational amenities. The project will be carried out by CIDCO.
According to the plan, an integrated redevelopment project would be carried out along township lines. They will receive a 323-square-foot ownership home. The initiative would be implemented, according to Chief Minister Shinde, not just in Thane but also in Mumbai and the Thane district's Mira-Bhayandar neighbourhood. On a 1500-acre site in Thane, 10,000 homes would be built in the first phase of the cluster development, he added. With the assistance of CIDCO, MHADA, and BMC, he expressed optimism that the projects that are stuck or behind schedule will be finished with greater zeal and that individuals who were forced to leave Mumbai will be brought back. Eknath Shinde also complimented Devendra Fadnavis, the state's deputy chief minister, for his support and direction of this programme while serving as the state's chief minister.
