The election commission has taken a new decision to use a laser mark instead of an ink mark on the finger. This initiative has been taken to put a brake on bogus and fake voting. The new technique is part of Artificial Intelligence. The ink which the election commission has been using is made up of Silver Nitrate. This ink is really very expensive. In the last Lok Sabha election, the election commission spent almost Rs. 30 crore on ink.
Also, even after putting an ink mark, in every election there is at least one case of fake voting. To avoid this, laser marking techniques will be in use this year in assembly elections of states. This laser mark is not possible to remove. Within this, the commission is going to set up cameras in EVM machines to capture the photos of voters and will send the notification to authorities using AI if it detects any person who comes again to vote.
These both technologies of laser marking and cameras based on AI will definitely help to reduce bogus voting. If they achieve success in the assembly election using AI, the election commission will implement this in the next Lok Sabha election.
