Apple has opened its second store in India at Select City Mall in Delhi, attracting a large number of customers who queued up early in the morning to be among the first to enter the store. Apple CEO Tim Cook was present at the opening and personally welcomed customers as employees celebrated the launch of the company's second retail outlet in India. The new store in Delhi is slightly smaller than the one in Mumbai but follows the same retail format as other Apple stores worldwide, featuring spaces for classes and meetings, new screens and hardware, and "Genius groves" that replace the "Genius Bar".
The store offers the latest Apple products and accessories, such as the iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV lineups, as well as the AirTag. Apple has been increasing its presence in India, which has a population of 1.4 billion. The company's recent expansion in India includes the opening of its first retail store in Mumbai and the second store in Delhi, which occurred back-to-back. Apple hopes to deepen its manufacturing base and retail presence in the country and expand its market for premium products such as the iPhone and Apple Watch.
Despite its relatively small market share in India's mobile phone market, where most smartphones run on Google's Android operating system, Apple sees potential for growth due to India's large young population who are willing to pay more for technology products. According to Bloomberg, Apple's revenue in India grew by 50% to $6 billion in the year through March, and the company shipped around 6.5 million iPhones in India in 2022, up from 4.8 mn in 2021, according to IDC.
