Over the weekend, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and several parts of northwest India experienced intense rainfall, resulting in waterlogging and severe traffic congestion in various areas. Himachal Pradesh continued to face heavy rainfall, triggering landslides throughout the state and causing the water level of the Beas River to rise. Seven districts, namely Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur, have been put on a 'red alert' by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). An ‘orange’ alert has been issued for Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts indicating the critical weather conditions.

In a tragic incident in Kotgarh village near Shimla, where three family members lost their lives and two others were injured when their house collapsed during heavy rainfall on Sunday morning. According to the authorities, due to the rising river levels and falling rocks on the Kullu-Manali road, the transportation of vehicles from Kullu and Manali towards Atal Tunnel and Rohtang has been completely halted. Heavy rainfall has affected multiple regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, eastern Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and parts of Karnataka. The torrential downpour has resulted in landslides and flash floods, leading to road blockages and transportation challenges. The Manali-Leh national highway has also been closed due to flooding. Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had cautioned about the possibility of flash floods and avalanches in the Lahaul and Spiti districts as a result of the ongoing rainfall.
