The Election Commission of India came up with a method to guarantee that voting in Karnataka will proceed smoothly. Following privacy concerns from activists, facial recognition technology will be installed in polling places in Bengaluru.
On May 10, a pilot test of the ground-breaking mechanism would take place in Room No. 2 of the Government Ramnarayan Chellaram College on Palace Road, close to the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer's office.
Voters must use the EC's Chunavana mobile application to register to vote, after which they must enter their EPIC (Elector's Photo Identity Card) number, cell phone number, and an OTP that will be provided to their registered phones. Voters will then need to upload a selfie to the app.
After registering, voters will go through a facial recognition scanner when they get to the polling place, according to Moneycontrol. They won't need to show any additional documentation if the photo matches one in the EC's database, allowing them to cast their votes. According to EC authorities, this technique will lessen long lines and incidences of fraudulent voting.
