Drugs worth 38 crores seized in Attari, Punjab

5.48 kg of heroin, estimated to be worth 38.36 crore on the international market, was found by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the Integrated Check Point in Amritsar's Attari. A shipment of "Afghan" brooms coming from Pakistan included drugs that had been hidden inside.

The agency authorities stopped the shipment of 4,000 brooms kept in 40 bags after receiving a tip. After closer inspection, they discovered that three bags containing 442 pieces of hollow bamboo contained heroin. To avoid discovery, these sticks' ends were artificially sealed, and they were put inside the brooms.

By using forged identification documents and with the help of his Indian wife, an Afghan national had imported the cargo shipment. In a previous case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the alleged Afghan national was released on bail when the Delhi Police made their arrest. An official reported that the Afghan national's wife was also taken into custody.
