Cyclone Mocha is expected to intensify by May 12

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a warning has been issued for an incoming cyclone named Mocha, which is anticipated to hit the eastern states of West Bengal and Odisha later this week. The IMD has detected a cyclonic circulation in the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea that is expected to result in the formation of a low-pressure area over the region on May 8. The IMD has predicted that there will be moderate rainfall in many areas between May 8 and 12, with heavy to very heavy precipitation scattered throughout the region. As a precaution, the agency has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea from May 8 to 10 as strong winds are likely to prevail over the Bay of Bengal during this period.

The governments of West Bengal and Odisha have been alerted, and preparations are underway to minimize the damage caused by the cyclone. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed several teams to assist in relief and rescue efforts if required. Cyclones are common in the Bay of Bengal, often resulting in significant damage to life and property. The IMD has urged the public to take safety precautions and stay informed with the latest weather forecasts. People residing in low-lying areas have been advised to relocate to safer locations and take necessary measures to safeguard themselves and their property.
