At an Aviation Event ‘Wings 2024’ in Hyderabad, Akasa Air, owned by investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, declared its collaboration with the upcoming Noida International Airport in Uttar Pradesh. A formal agreement has been signed between Akasa Air and Noida International Airport..
IndiGo was the first airline to announce its association with Noida airport, emphasising the significance of enhancing connectivity. Christoph Schnellmann, the CEO of Noida International Airport, expressed excitement about welcoming Akasa Air as a partner.
The Noida International Airport, A.k.a Jewar International Airport, will serve the National Capital Region (NCR) and reduce the traffic burden on the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
The ambitious project is under construction and is strategically located near the planned YEIDA city in Uttar Pradesh, set to become India's and Asia's largest international airport upon completion. The National Highway Authority of India is also constructing a 31-km greenfield highway from the airport to Sector-65, Faridabad on Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.
The collaboration between Akasa Air and Noida airport aligns with the vision of establishing a comprehensive air network connecting major metros and Tier-2 and 3 cities across the country.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, emphasised that the Noida International Airport reflects the government's dedication to developing aviation infrastructure as India aims to become an international aviation hub. Dube expressed confidence that the partnership between Akasa Air and the airport would increase connectivity to and from Uttar Pradesh.
The Noida International Airport is expected to commence operations in September 2024. The first phase of the airport is scheduled to open for flight operations by the end of this year
