Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research, the earthquake's epicenter was about 5 southwest of Bhachau in the Kutch region. The earthquake happened on Wednesday at 5:05 p.m.On Wednesday, the Gujarat coastlines of Saurashtra and Kachchh received a Cyclone Biparjoy warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On June 15, it is quite likely to move virtually northeastward by the evening, passing across Saurashtra and Kutch as well as the nearby Pakistani beaches, between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan, not far from Jakhau Port in Gujarat.

On the evening of June 15, Cyclone Biparjoy is predicted to make landfall close to the Jakhau coast before moving over the Rann up to Rajasthan. In the aftermath of the storm, the BSF at its Border Outpost earlier on Wednesday evacuated residents of villages in coastal Kutch. Ravi Gandhi, the Inspector General of the Border Security Force for Gujarat, went to the coastal districts of Bhuj to monitor the actions being taken to lessen the disastrous impacts of the storm and to assess the level of readiness for any eventuality. As the cyclone barrels towards the Kutch coast, some 50,000 people who live near the sea in eight districts of Gujarat have been evacuated. In order to conduct relief and rescue operations, 18 NDRF teams have been sent to Gujarat, with four of them in the Kutch district, three in Rajkot and Devbhumi Dwarka, two in Jamnagar, and one each in Porbandar, Junagarh, Gir Somnath, Morbi, Valsad, and Gandhinagar.
