Quantum Computing Startup Sandbox AQ Raises $500 Million

Sandbox AQ, a startup building quantum computing announced that it has raised $500 million in funding on Tuesday.

Quantum computing uses the branch of physics called quantum mechanics to solve complex problems and can reportedly solve complex problems 100 times faster than ‘regular’ computers.

An IBM report says that quantum computers can create multidimensional spaces where they can analyse patterns linking individual data points. Current computers cannot create computational spaces and hence fall short in decrypting complex problems with very large variables.

Sandbox was founded by its current CEO Jack Hidary at Google’s parent, Alphabet in 2016. The quantum computing startup separated itself from Google to increase its independence and collaboration with other companies to quicken the building of quantum computers.

Sandbox AQ is focussing on the domain of cybersecurity to determine the safety of systems and flags systems using old cryptography that requires updates as reported by Reuters.

The startup also has the potential in combining artificial intelligence and quantum mechanics for testing in the field of pharmacy, medical scanning, navigation and computation of advanced mathematics.
