Twitter rebranding as ‘X’ could be a trademark nightmare

Dropping the bluebird and trying to capture ‘X’ might not be easy for Mr Musk. Experts are speculating whether the new avatar of Twitter infringes the trademarks of other companies.

The new logo 'X', which Elon Musk is trying to adopt, is also loved by many other companies like Microsoft, Meta, and Unicode X.

Microsoft and Meta use ‘X’ as their brand identity on social media, and both own intellectual property rights over the letter.  The new logo of Twitter is represented in a black-and-white color scheme, while Microsoft and Meta use a blue-and-white color scheme for the same font.

A worried EDM artist from India, Kxlider, who also has access to the logo, in a tweet, said, "I am simply worried about changing everything. It will change my music career.”

According to lawyers dealing in trademarks and copyrights, Twitter won’t be able to hold the symbol ‘X’ if the matter goes to court.

Currently, the ‘X’ is visible only on the official page of Twitter.
