Nissan is currently in the process of developing an affordable electric vehicle in the A-segment for global markets. As we have previously reported, the company has confirmed that the project is proceeding as planned and included India in the list of target markets. Makoto Uchida, the CEO of Nissan Motor Corporation, has stated that the company is actively working on creating a "global affordable EV", and that India is a key part of their future plans.
According to reports, At the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida said that electrification is gaining momentum globally and that Nissan is "transforming itself" to be a leader in this shift
"We're actively developing a budget-friendly A-segment electric vehicle for the future, and we have extensive plans in this regard. We recognize the strong emergence of the Chinese electric vehicle market, and as pioneers in this field, we are well-prepared to demonstrate our expertise in the affordable market segment. We're focused on enhancing our cost efficiency and will introduce an electric vehicle that appeals to a broader range of customers," Uchida explained.
With a global sales record of over 1 million electric vehicles, Nissan's unveiling of five distinct EV concepts at the Japan Mobility Show shouldn't come as a shock – it's the largest number presented by the company at any motor show. Earlier this year, Nissan and its alliance partner, Renault, declared their intention to invest $660 million (approximately Rs 4,913 crore) in India for the creation of C-segment and A-segment electric vehicles.
