Kia unveils three new models at global EV event in Korea

At its first global EV Day event in Korea, Kia unveiled three new electric vehicles (EVs): the production-spec EV5 SUV, the radical EV4 sedan, and the EV3 SUV. Kia says these three models will join its global EV line-up in future and will help the brand to achieve an annual sales target of one million EVs by 2026 and boost it to 1.6 million units per year by 2030.

Kia has launched the EV6 in nearly all major markets and is currently preparing to launch the EV9, the brand’s all-new flagship SUV. This will be followed by three production-spec models that were unveiled at the same event.

Kia EV4 sedan

The EV4 is a concept sedan with a bold and futuristic design. It has a sharp front end with vertically stacked headlights and a prominent bumper with a large air intake and contrasting black accents.

The EV4 sedan resembles the EV6 at first glance, but it has many unique design elements, such as a sharp front end, a sloping roofline, and a prominent shoulder line that runs from the rear door to the taillights. The rear end features a tall bumper and an integrated spoiler with the Kia logo.

The wheels appear to be substantial and feature a triangular pattern, bearing some resemblance to other Kia electric vehicles such as the EV6 and EV9.

Inside, the design of the EV4 sedan is characterized by a minimalistic approach, with a notable absence of buttons. Additionally, the EV4 introduces a novel 'Mind Modes' feature, which fine-tunes ambient lighting and animated ventilation patterns. Notably, there's a 'Perform' mode that equips the driver with all the necessary information for peak performance. Furthermore, a 'Serenity' mode is available, offering an array of digital graphics to create a more tranquil ambience.

Kia EV3 SUV

The EV3 will be Kia's most affordable electric SUV, at least for now. It's a two-row SUV with a similar design to the larger EV9 and EV5 SUVs but in a much smaller package. Kia says the EV3 has a new design theme called CMF, which stands for Colors, Materials, and Finish.

The vehicle's exterior design combines boxy elements with a blend of sharp angles and subtle curves. Notably, it features a sharply sloped windshield and a roofline that gently narrows towards the rear. Muscular wheel arches and robust alloy wheels add to its overall aesthetics.

Inside, the interior design aligns with the design philosophy seen in other Kia electric vehicles, maintaining a minimalist approach. Kia emphasizes the use of sustainable materials in the EV3's cabin, and there are even handcrafted elements on select interior panels that, as claimed by the brand, create a three-dimensional appearance within the SUV's interior.

Kia EV5

The Kia EV5 SUV, which was first shown in production-spec at a Kia event in China a few months ago, was showcased as a global product at the recent Kia EV Day event. Kia has confirmed that the EV5 will be built in both China and Korea for global markets.

The EV5 is available in three configurations: standard, long-range, and long-range AWD. The standard EV5 is equipped with a 64kWh battery pack and a 160kW motor, offering an estimated driving range of 530km per charge (CLTC). Meanwhile, the long-range version features an 88kWh battery and the same 160kW motor, providing an expected range of approximately 720km per charge. The top-tier EV5 long-range AWD boasts an 88kWh battery pack and a total output of 230kW, with a 160kW motor for the front wheels and a 70kW motor for the rear wheels. The anticipated range for this variant is around 650km.
