WhatsApp ,owned by Meta, a big social community site, came up with a solution to ban spam calls. Many WhatsApp users in India are facing problems regarding fraudulent calls even after having a strong end to end encrypted service. WhatsApp is using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to prevent and reduce spam over 50%.
The Electronic and IT Minister of state took notice of these incidents and was about to send a notice to Meta regarding the same. But yesterday, on 11 May, Meta clarified that it is taking appropriate measures so that spam calls will be reduced soon. These calls are from Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Vietnam and Ethiopia with numbers starting from +62, +254, +60, +84, +251 respectively.
WhatsApp's majority of users are from India. This is a big, leading market for it. Users are the first and foremost priority of Meta and WhatsApp. WhatsApp has provided facilities like block and report and will be working on this prominently to provide a safe experience for its users.
This problem can affect WhatsApp's business badly if a new solution doesn't work out.
