After news circulated about Elon Musk and Tesla’s senior vice president of automotive, Tom Zhu visiting China we finally have a solid reason why.
Tesla has made the announcement that they will be opening a new battery factory in China. The announcement was made in Shanghai with Shanghai government officials including vice mayor Wu Qing and Tesla Vice President Tao Lin.
The battery is said to be a megapack which is an enormous battery created to help stabilize energy grids. Tesla has stated that their megapack battery will be capable to power about 3,600 homes for an hour.
The construction for the factory is set to begin in the third quarter of this year and is scheduled to begin production in the second quarter of 2024. The factory's initial goal is to produce 10,000 megapack batteries a year and sell them worldwide.
