Bangalore has developed in such a way that India is going to witness the first air taxi. Sarla Aviation is known for its solid reputation in the aviation industry for reliability and standing strong for a long period due to the creation of more advanced technology in the aviation world.
The Bangalore-based startup company is named after Sarla Thukral, who is India’s first woman pilot. Now, Sarla Aviation has taken their words to a different level as they are planning to introduce Air Taxi in India. For the very first time India is going to have an air taxi, and it will cease the transportation issues as well as the commute system will be easier.
It will be first introduced in Bangalore and the name of the air taxi will be Shunya. Sarla Aviation shared this great creation in Delhi at the India Mobility Global Expo. So far, the exact date of the inauguration is still not known but it will be done by 2028. This step will revolutionize the urban transportation system in developed cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Post Bangalore launch, The company plans to launch their air taxi services in other major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune. In addition to the passenger services, Sarla Aviation will also launch free-of-cost air ambulance services to address the healthcare sector in urban cities.
How much would an air taxi cost the passengers?
According to Sarla Aviation, an air taxi (Shunya) from Electronic City to the airport could cost 1700 Rs. with a commute time of only 19 minutes.
Shunya is designed in a way that it would cover up to 250 km/h and it will be done in a way that it would cover short distances such as 20 to 40 Kilometres. Well, the capacity of the car is not enough to have more than 6 customers at the same time. But it will be very comfortable enough for 6 passengers and it is also shared that there will be free air emergency services for metropolitan cities.
Who founded Sarla Aviation? And what about the funding for the air taxi?
Sarla Aviation was founded by Adrian Schmidt, Rakesh Gaonkar, and Shivam Chauhan in the year 2024. Even though the company is new to the market, it still managed to grab the position and reputation in a short time.
For the records of the funding, they have raised USD 10 million for this project. The main investors are Accel and Nikhil Kamath. Apart from them, the list of investors includes the following names: Binny Bansal, Sriharsha Majety, Abhiraj Singh Bhal, Abhishek Goyal, Ramakant Sharma, Sujeet Kumar, Manish Agarwal, and Sandeep Nailwal.
