NASA Delays Sunita Williams's Return: Here's Why?

NASA has announced a delay in astronaut Sunita Williams' return from the International Space Station (ISS). Williams, who flew the Boeing Starliner on its first human flight, is currently docked with the ISS alongside astronaut Butch Willmore. Originally scheduled for June 26, the return has been postponed due to scheduled ISS spacewalks and the need for additional propulsion system reviews.

Steve Stich, manager of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough review, particularly regarding helium system leaks and thruster performance. Regardless of the delay, the Starliner is prepared for an emergency return if necessary. Mission managers are considering future return opportunities following the planned spacewalks on June 24 and July 2.

Williams and Willmore continue to assist Expedition 71's crew operations. The extended stay will be used to improve the Starliner's certification and prepare for future missions. NASA will revise the return schedule following the readiness review.
