Lok Sabha Session Day 7 Live: PM Modi concludes his speech amid sloganeering by the Opposition

The proceedings for today's Lok Sabha session began at 11 am. Today the Prime Minister is expected to reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, a day after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s fiery maiden speech drove the BJP and its allies to take offence. Before his speech in the Parliament, PM Modi addressed the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) parliamentary party meeting. This was his first speech to the MPs of the ruling bloc following his election to a third term in power. The conclusion of this NDA discussion could potentially have an impact on the agenda that the NDA's allies plan to follow, especially in light of the Opposition bloc's growing strength.

PM Modi's 'Balak buddhi' remark

"Lies have no roots, and truth cannot be suppressed," stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he wrapped up his more than two-hour speech. "May wisdom prevail over childish mindsets, (Baalak Buddhi get Sadbuddhi)." Shouting is never the way to overcome the truth. "I had a great day today because I experienced the power of truth," Modi remarked.

PM Modi: "The Government is very serious about stopping paper leaks"

As the NEET row rages on, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he will tell every leader to work towards stopping paper leaks. "Those who played with the future of the youth shall not be spared. There have been arrests across the country. We have already made a strict law on this. To strengthen the exam system, necessary steps are being taken," he said. 

Opposition chants 'Justice for Manipur' as PM Modi delivers his speech

The Opposition screamed "Manipur ko nyay do" (Do justice) in unison as Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood to speak in his first speech following his election to a third consecutive term. 
Chanting slogans like 'Dictatorship won't be tolerated,' the Opposition persisted in its protest to call for a debate on Manipur, causing PM Modi to momentarily halt his remarks while Speaker Om Birla tried to restore order in the House.


 

People chose NDA in the biggest elections of the world: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed his party and the NDA's win in the "biggest elections in the world". "I understand the pain of some (Opposition) that they have been defeated despite their greatest attempts to spread lies. It makes us proud that people nominated us for a third term," he remarked. 

In an apparent dig at the Opposition, which has been holding rallies and chanting for the past two days, PM Modi also greeted new members of the House and praised their civility.

PM Modi to speak in Lok Sabha at 4 pm

At 4 pm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to respond to the Lok Sabha's Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. PM Modi gave the NDA MPs instructions to abide by the norms and procedures of Parliament during today's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary meeting.

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi demanded that Speaker Om Birla of the Lok Sabha restore the deleted portions from his first address as Leader of the Opposition, in a letter sent on Tuesday. The senior leader claimed that, while carrying an expunction, a significant chunk of his speech was removed from the House's proceedings. Gandhi wrote, "Shocked to note the manner in which considerable portion of my speech has been simply taken off from the proceedings under the garb of expunction."

Akhilesh Yadav advocates for the Caste Census

Akhilesh Yadav, the MP for the Samajwadi Party (SP), spoke in favour of conducting a caste census in the nation during his statement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, stating that social justice could not be achieved without one. The leader of the SP said that his party will continue to advocate for the removal of electronic voting machines (EVMs) because he still does not trust them. The triumph of SP leader Awadhesh Prasad in Faizabad, Ayodhya, was also hailed by him as a "victory for India's mature voters."

Regarding the Agniveer problem, Akhilesh also targeted the government, declaring that their party would never support the Agnipath scheme for military recruiting. "The Agniveer scheme will be scrapped when the INDIA alliance comes to power," he declared. He also brought up the current NEET paper leak controversy in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. "What is causing these paper leaks? In actuality, the government is taking such steps to avoid having to provide work for young people," he stated.

Rahul Gandhi says ‘can’t expunge truth’

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, reportedly had some of his remarks removed from the record following his fiery address in the Lok Sabha on Monday. "The remarks could be expunged in Modi ji's world but it cannot be expunged in reality," he added in response to the same. Rahul attacked the administration vehemently, saying, "They can erase it as much as they want.

What PM Modi told the NDA MPs

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the NDA MPs instructions to abide by the conventions and procedures of Parliament after the party's parliamentary meeting. He added that the Prime Minister had said that each Member of Parliament should prioritize "service to the country" and get knowledge of topics that interest them, such as the environment, social sector, or water. Additionally, according to the PM, each Member of Parliament should effectively and legally represent their district in the House.
