In a separate but related incident, a North Myrtle Beach police officer who was responding to the scene accidentally shot himself in the leg at a marina located about 3 miles (5 kilometers) from the shooting site. According to Lauren Jessie, a spokesperson for the North Myrtle Beach city government, the officer is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

This latest shooting comes just a month after another mass shooting in Myrtle Beach, where one person was killed and 11 others were injured.
