Chinese Military Activity Near Taiwan

On X, MND noted in the report that by 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today, 53 naval aircraft of the PLA, 11 naval ships of the PLAN, and 8 official ships with operations around Taiwan were identified. 23 of the aircraft crossed the median line and intruded on Taiwan’s northern, southwestern, and eastern ADIZ.  ''We have sat and watched, and we have acted accordingly.”

Recent Incursions

Ten Chinese military aircraft and seven Chinese naval vessels and three official vessels were identified over the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday. On X, Taiwan’s MND noted in a post that

“10 PLA aircraft, 7 PLAN vessels, and 3 official ships operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 6 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s southwestern ADIZ. This we have observed and acted appropriately concerning the subject.”

This event took place as China has recently upped the ante in its approach towards Taiwan with activities that have made observers worried about the disturbance in the Southeast Asian region due to Beijing’s stand on the island. Therefore, it has induced practical indicator displays of war preparedness at important sites across the island and is in prompt cooperation with the CCA to iron out suitable reactions to PLA’s activities.

Rising Tensions

The TAIWAN - CHINA issue is one of many protracted territorial disputes between sovereign states that is based in Taiwan. Taiwan unlike other Chinese territories unofficially has its own government, army, and economy and is considered as the Republic of China or ROC an independent country. However, China never recognizes Taiwan as an independent country, but as a part of China, as the “One Country, Two Systems” policy dominates Chinese diplomacy stating there is only one China and Beijing is its capital.

Historical Context

This has especially been ignited by political conflict spanning decades, beginning after the Chinese Civil War: 1945-1949 which saw the ROC government moving to Taiwan after Mao Zedong’s led Communist Party overpowered it to take control of mainland China.

Ongoing Conflict

Throughout the years Beijing has been noticeably clear about the desire to bring Taiwan back into the ‘motherland’ and Beijing has been waging diplomatic, economic, and even military campaigns to weaken Taiwan’s position in the international community. On the other hand, Taiwan, which is backed by most of its people, has voted to stick to its independence.
