As a result of the recently concluded U.S. election, with President-elect Donald Trump coming back to power, the world has been plagued by scarring doubts regarding future global climate deals, especially the Paris climate accord. Trump has already announced his intentions to withdraw the country from the Paris Agreement and roll back important climate regulations. These uncertainties threaten the G20 meeting and raise apprehension about climate finance and international cooperation.
India's Positioning at the G20 Summit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, where he was welcomed by the Indian diaspora. As part of the Troika of the G20, comprising Brazil and South Africa, Modi actively contributes to the debates. His statement ahead of the summit highlighted India’s commitment to global cooperation, stating that the country looks forward to meaningful dialogues that align with its vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’ PM Modi will also engage in bilateral talks with other leaders to further cooperation on key issues.
A Glimpse into PM Modi’s Upcoming Visits
The tour includes a visit to Guyana. PM Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country in over 50 years. During his visit on Sunday, Modi was conferred with Nigeria's highest national award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
