Landslide in Indonesia kills 10 , over 40 missing

47 people were feared to be buried in their homes by landslides that tore through settlements on Indonesia's remote Natuna islands following torrential rains, and rescuers were looking for them. Eleven individuals were confirmed killed, authorities said Tuesday.

Suharyanto, the head of the National Disaster Management Agency, reported that eight further people were saved with injuries, three of whom were in severe condition.

They were transported quickly to hospitals in neighbouring Ranai and Pontianak city on Borneo island, which is 285 kilometres (180 miles) away from the villages of Genting and Pangkalan. They are situated on a lonely island in the Natuna archipelago at the South China Sea's coast, surrounded by rough waters and big waves.
