The Biden administration has officially informed the US Congress about the approval for selling the MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopters, among other relevant equipment, to India. It has been valued at an approximate sum of $1.17 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notifed about this deal, which is going to greatly help in strengthening India's forces and will help them in dealing with its ongoing as well as future threats with the upgrading of anti-submarine warfare abilities.
Major Items of Sale
India's request includes the buying of 30 Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS-JTRS). Additionally, the selling contract will consist of advanced data transfer systems, external fuel tanks, AN/AAS 44C(V) forward-looking infrared (FLIR) systems, operator machine interface assistants, spare containers and munitions. The accord will cover support services under the categories integration and test support, facilities study, design, and construction.
Lockheed Martin will be taking the lead over the implementation
Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems will be the major contractor for the deal, executing the sale. To ensure it is implemented successfully, up to 20 U.S. government officials and 25 contractor personnel shall temporarily travel to India to supply technical support and management oversight over the deal.
Sale Precedes President Trump's Inauguration
This major defense equipment sale to India occurs just weeks before the end of President Joe Biden's four-year term with president-elect Donald Trump set to become the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025.
