On Wednesday night, The Union Ministry of Education announced that the The UGC-NET June 2024 examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), that were conducted on June 18 have been cancelled. The Education Ministry cited that the integrity of the exam was compromised.
“To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, it has been decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 examination be cancelled,” the ministry said.
‘Inputs’ from Cyber Crime Coordination Centre
This decision came after inputs from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) suggested possible compromises in the examination process.
"On June 19, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of I4C," the ministry stated in a release.
CBI Inquiry Ordered
The Ministry of Education has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and referred it to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“The matter is being handed over to the CBI for an investigation to ensure that the sanctity of the examination process is upheld," the ministry added.
New Date to be Announced Soon
A new date for the UGC-NET examination will be announced soon, providing candidates another opportunity to take the exam. The Ministry of Education reassured that apt measures will be implemented to prevent any future breaches and maintain the highest standards of examination integrity.
“A fresh examination shall be conducted, for which information shall be shared separately,” ministry said.
Candidates are advised to stay updated through official channels for further information regarding the rescheduled examination and ongoing investigation.
About the UGC-NET
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode on June 18, across various cities nationwide. The exam was held in two shifts on Tuesday, with nearly 10 lakh students participating.
Out of the 11,21,225 candidates who registered, approximately 81% (9,08,580 candidates) took the test, which was administered at 1205 centers in 317 cities throughout India.
The UGC NET exam is conducted for determining the eligibility for assistant professor positions in universities and colleges, as well as for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), which offers a monthly stipend of Rs 37,000 for two years. Additionally it is also for admissions in Phd Programs.
All this comes amid there is controversy going on the conduct of NEET Examinations.
