NEET UG 2026 Re-Test Results Out: Over 11.21 Lakh Qualify, Two Students Secure AIR 1

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the results of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, bringing an end to months of uncertainty for more than 20 lakh medical aspirants across the country. A total of 11.21 lakh candidates have qualified for undergraduate medical admissions this year, while Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana emerged as the joint national toppers with 715 marks out of 720.

The re-test was conducted after the original NEET UG 2026 examination held in May was cancelled following allegations of a large-scale paper leak. The fresh examination, conducted on June 21, was one of the largest entrance tests ever held in India and was aimed at restoring confidence in the country's medical admission process.

More Than 11.21 Lakh Candidates Qualify

According to data released by the NTA, 11,21,423 candidates have qualified for NEET UG 2026, making them eligible to participate in the counselling process for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other undergraduate medical programmes across India.

The results highlight the intense competition among medical aspirants. While over 11 lakh candidates cleared the qualifying cutoff, only a small number secured exceptionally high scores. A total of 138 candidates scored above 690 marks, reflecting the fierce competition for seats in India's top government medical colleges.

Candidates can now download their scorecards using their application number and date of birth through the official NEET portal. The NTA has also released the final answer key along with the results.

Aryan Gupta and Panshul Bansal Share the Top Spot

This year's examination saw two students emerge at the top of the national merit list.

Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana both secured 715 out of 720 marks. Although they achieved identical scores, Aryan Gupta was awarded All India Rank (AIR) 1, while Panshul Bansal secured AIR 2 based on the NTA's tie-breaking criteria.

The 2026 results also mark a significant jump in top scores compared to the previous year. While the highest score in NEET UG 2025 stood at 686, this year 19 candidates crossed the 700-mark, indicating a return to the scoring trend witnessed in earlier years.

Female Candidates Continue to Excel

Women candidates once again delivered an impressive performance in NEET UG 2026.

More than 58% of all qualified candidates are female, continuing the trend of increasing female participation and success in India's medical entrance examinations. The figures indicate that women not only accounted for a larger share of successful candidates but also maintained their strong presence among high performers.

Education experts believe this reflects the growing number of female students pursuing careers in medicine and healthcare across the country.

NEET UG 2026 Re-Test Result

Re-Test Held After Paper Leak Allegations

The declaration of the results brings closure to one of the most closely watched admission cycles in recent years.

The original NEET UG 2026 examination, conducted on May 3, was cancelled after allegations of a paper leak sparked nationwide concern over the integrity of the examination. Following investigations, authorities decided to conduct a nationwide re-test to ensure fairness and transparency.

The fresh examination was held on June 21, with more than 20 lakh candidates appearing at examination centres across the country. Before announcing the results, the NTA released scanned OMR sheets, provisional answer keys and invited objections from candidates before publishing the final answer key.

The re-examination was considered essential to restoring confidence among students and ensuring that admissions proceed purely on the basis of merit.

Competition for Medical Seats Remains Intense

Although more than 11.21 lakh candidates have qualified, competition for government medical colleges remains extremely high.

India continues to have significantly fewer MBBS seats than the number of qualified aspirants. As a result, only a portion of successful candidates will secure admission to government medical colleges through the counselling process.

Experts point out that even a difference of one or two marks can lead to a substantial change in All India Rank, making every mark crucial during seat allocation.

This year's results also show a wider distribution of high scores, with 19 candidates scoring above 700 marks and 138 candidates crossing the 690-mark threshold.

Counselling Process to Begin Soon

With the results now declared, qualified candidates can begin preparing for the counselling process.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct counselling for 15% All India Quota seats, while individual states will manage admissions under the 85% state quota. Admissions to AIIMS, JIPMER, central universities, deemed universities and several other participating institutions will also be processed through the counselling mechanism.

Candidates are advised to keep essential documents such as their NEET scorecard, admit card, Class 10 and 12 certificates, identity proof and category certificates ready for document verification.

They should also regularly check official counselling schedules, choice-filling dates and seat allotment notifications to ensure they do not miss any important deadlines.

A Fresh Start for Medical Admissions

The announcement of the NEET UG 2026 re-test results marks a significant milestone after months of uncertainty surrounding India's biggest medical entrance examination.

Following the cancellation of the original examination and the successful conduct of the nationwide re-test, the declaration of results clears the way for the medical admission process to move forward.

While the controversy surrounding the paper leak raised serious concerns about examination security, the completion of the re-test and publication of results offer relief to lakhs of aspiring doctors who had been awaiting clarity on their future.

With 11.21 lakh qualified candidates, two joint toppers scoring 715 marks, and a strong return to higher top scores, NEET UG 2026 has concluded on a highly competitive note, setting the stage for another challenging counselling and admission season across medical colleges in India.
