Maoists explode railway tracks in Jharkhand, disrupt Howrah-Mumbai route

Police reported that the Howrah-Mumbai train services were disrupted for several hours in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district. The railway tracks between Manoharpur and Goilkera were destroyed by members of the banned CPI (Maoist) on Friday, disrupting train services on the Howrah-Mumbai route.

The incident took place on Thursday night, specifically between Mahadevsal and Posoita railway stations, which are approximately 150 km away from the state capital Ranchi, as stated by Ashutosh Sekhar, the Superintendent of Police in West Singhbhum.

"Security has been tightened in the locality. The repair work on the railway tracks has been started from early morning," he said, adding that Maoists also put up banners and posters in the area, as quoted in PTI

Vinit Kumar, the Assistant Commercial Manager of Chakradharpur Division in South Eastern Railway, informed PTI that train services in the division were restored at approximately 8:15 am on Friday.

According to Kumar, the divisional headquarters received information about the damage to the third tracks between the Mahadevsal and Posoita sections at 11:47 pm on Thursday. The blast, caused by unidentified individuals, destroyed approximately two to three meters of the tracks.

Kumar stated that the Chakradharpur division promptly took control of the train services following the incident. He mentioned that the railway authorities would soon release information regarding the number of trains that were halted or cancelled due to the incident.

It is worth mentioning that the banned outfit has been observing a 'protest week' since December 16 and had called for a 'Bharat bandh' on Friday.
