For more than a year, it was one of the most talked-about rumours in Tamil cinema and Indian cricket. Now it is official. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Kavya Maran and music composer Anirudh Ravichander are getting married, and the family has started inviting guests, among them some of the country’s most prominent political leaders.

The announcement

The confirmation came from the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office, in a post on X. It said Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran, accompanied by his wife Kavery Maran, met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at his residence in Jubilee Hills and invited him to the wedding reception of their daughter Kavya. The reception of Kavya Maran and Anirudh Ravichander is scheduled for November 21 in Chennai.

Reports say the invitations are going out to other leaders too. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay are among those reported to have been invited. One outlet adds the name of former Chief Minister MK Stalin.

What is not confirmed

The official post speaks only of the reception on November 21. Some reports claim that a wedding ceremony will take place earlier, on November 11, in Greece. Neither the families nor Sun Group have confirmed that, so it should be treated as unverified.

The couple

Kavya Maran is the daughter of media baron Kalanithi Maran and is closely associated with the Sun Group and its IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, where reports describe her as CEO. Cricket fans know her from the stands, where her expressive reactions during SRH matches have often gone viral.

Anirudh Ravichander, 36, is one of South India’s most sought-after music directors, with big scores across Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema. He belongs to a film family. His father is the actor Ravi Raghavendra, and he is related to superstar Rajinikanth, the brother-in-law of his father.

From rumour to confirmation

Reports linking the two first appeared in 2025. At the time, stories even claimed that Rajinikanth had spoken to Kalanithi Maran about the match. Anirudh publicly dismissed the speculation on X, and the story went quiet. This week’s invitation visit is the first confirmation from the families’ side.

What to watch

Details of the ceremony itself, including whether a wedding takes place before the reception and where, are still to come. With the guest list including leaders from across party lines, the Chennai reception is likely to be one of the biggest social events of the season in the south.
